Since the start of this weird blog, I’ve often wondered if it’s my bloodline. Weird things don’t happen to my brother. As far as I know weird things like this don’t happen to my extended family. Mom and Dad wouldn’t talk about it if it happened to them.

In between doing the side hustles and the full time headache of a job in a nutty area, a few things have been gradually changing. The neighbors next door have been quiet and staying inside. They dislike the comings and goings of the homeless outside (which I will get to in time with a few other stories) and usually text or call if they need something. In their silence, a few random text messages like “Did you feel that” and “Are you guys ok? You haven’t been home for a few days.” I assure you, we were home.
There’s been quite a few moments in my life where I just stand and stare wondering why. The why would be anything from “Why me?” to “Why did that have to happen?” This is one of those “Why me?” moments. I found out I have a cousin from an extended part of the family and he’s in a band. (To which I am now the photographer for and that’s a different story.) Since my husband joined said band, things have been weird.
Over the past years of living here, we’ve seen our fair share of vagrants and oddities that have no name. Given the slime monster has even packed up and left a long time ago proves to us that living in this area is something even a cesspool doesn’t want to do. Well, now there is something new.
WARNING: Content may be a little graphic. Let’s brush off the dust shall we and not sugar coat the fact I disappeared for 2 years. If you don’t want to read the good stuff, look for the bold sentence and start there. There’s been a lot going on that hasn’t been fair, favorable, or good news. There have been a few bits of happiness in the dark times though and I’ll start there.
A while back I wrote of the night we discovered why people disappeared on a local river. Today we were driving over the bridge in broad daylight and discovered local police and a couple of SBI jackets on the river bank. Around here, the rivers never freeze but today there was one small area that had.
Our town is an ever changing on. The cotton mills have been torn down for town homes so close you could wipe your own neighbor’s rear or they have been transformed into museums or gyms. One such that should have been torn down from a horribly history has been dedicated to African Americans in the region, a bitter sweet purpose nonetheless.
Lately NC has been having warmer than usual weather. Since its stayed above 70 degrees with humid heat, everyone knows the waters around here stay about 10 - 15 degrees Fahrenheit cooler. That makes for extremely perfect weather to go wading, river mining for gold and minerals, and even kayaking in the muddy waters of the local rivers.
Its been a few months hasn't it? Sorry we disappeared on everyone. Last year was rough at the end.
Out of all the senses they've labeled humans to having, the scent of smell is one of the most powerful. Everyone's sense of smell is different. Some people are born without it. What if one such person suddenly developed that smell?
This location takes place in downtown and happened a few years ago at the old studio location. |
